Mashing it Up

Today I experimented with some of the different mashup sites given to us in Thing 4. The Spell with Flickr site was interesting. I liked how you could change each letter to find something appealing to the individual. However, I could not figure out how to copy the image. Some instruction on the site would be helpful.
BigHugeLabs was great. I was able to edit a photo using the FX tool that turned out really interesting. Here it is.

I also tried out a tool called
Bead Art.

There are a lot of different tools on Big Huge Labs that could be utilized for a library blog. They had Calendar, Slide Show and JigSaw tools; all seem to be easy to use. Colr Pickr is cool too. I never knew mashups could be so easy!

Flickr Fun

Wow, that was so easy and cool too! I just explored Flickr and found pictures of my nephew playing his guitar at a fundraiser. Who knew? So I decided to upload some photos of places I've been and it was much easier than I expected. Check it out! www.flickr.com/photos/flwrgrl
Now if I can only think of ways Flickr could be of use in promoting the library. I wonder what other libraries are doing?

Thinking about Web 2.0

I’ve been doing a lot of this lately. Thinking about Web 2.0 and how we can use it in our library. With so many new technologies to ponder, I wonder which ones would truly capture our patrons’ attention and be helpful to them in using the library. Should we start Twittering? Add a blog to our website? Play with widgets? Shoot a YouTube video? It is imperative that we evaluate our options, but we can’t wait too long to actually do something or the next new ‘Thing’ will be out there. We must decide to either fly or stay grounded. It’s a dilemma that we all face.
Yet if we don’t jump on the 2.0 spaceship, we will surely miss opportunities to entice users of 2.0 technology to the library and to make changes that will impact how the library is perceived. We have the potential to do even more than we do now; and we do a lot! Ultimately I hope that learning more about 2.0 will enlighten me, encourage me and engage me in figuring out what our library can do to be part of the Web 2.0 landscape.

2.0 Newbie

So I figure I need to learn more about all things 2.0 and therefore I have challenged myself to start 23 Things in the hope that once I begin, I will find it so fun that I won't want to stop. As my title indicates, I would most likely rather be reading; but hey, I need to venture out from under my bookcovers now and again.
I look forward to learning more about how this technology can be used in my library.
